So this has become really tempting. A guy on Facebok who I know from the MWM Collective is selling his E30. It's either this or rebuild my Camry...

"Yessir, 5 speed 325is. Burns about a quart of oil every 400-500 miles. Can't figure out why, both dry and wet compression tests came out good after running seafoam through the vacuum lines, so no gasket or piston ring issues. Thermostat housing leaks slightly but I have a replacement housing and replacement upper and lower radiator hoses, just haven't done the job yet. Also has race springs on a stock suspension so it rides rough (THANKS PREVIOUS OWNER YOU SUCK). Needs paint. Other than that its good."

"I initially thought the oil was a bad head gasket, bad piston rings, or bad valve seals. The compression tests seemed to have ruled that out, though. I'm kind of lost at this point. It could probably use an engine rebuild, but I just ca't afford to get the block and head machined and buy the replacement parts at the moment."

$3500.

He lives in Modesto and I live in Redding, so I'd think I could at least get it driven back up here. He figures it has at least 250,000 miles on it, but the odometer stopped working. Sounds like a rebuild to me, not sure what that costs... But the want is strong. Good idea? Bad idea? I'm also about to drop 4k into my Camry to get it running again. At least the E30 may gain value at some point...

Is this a serious question? That's a terrible, terrible, terrible deal. E30s aren't going to go up in value (a ton were made) and that car sounds like a basket case in every sense of the word. Run far away.

I'd love a clean E30, but you can get one for $4000. You'd be insane to buy that

Hell no. Maybe at $1500, but $3500 gets you a decent E30, good E36, or halfway towards a nice E46.
